One of the very best all around food plot peas. Deer love this plant.
I planted about an acre strip of iron clay peas earlier in the summer, probably causing the early summer drought. Needless to say, there was hardly any growth. I visited the site this weekend and despite the recent rain there was little apparent growth, except in a 4 x 4 fence enclosure where the peas are knee high.
Closer inspection of the plot shows the peas have been mowed down and are only 2-3 inches high. I realize this is the intended result, food for the deer, but was expecting more production from the peas.
Gentlemen and Ladies the key words here was DROUGHT and 1 acre.......Still the plants did great under this kind of conditions. always plant at least 5 acres for a plot to stand grazing pressure.
I myself planted the same kind of plot as this gentleman exception was I placed a 10 feet tall wire enclosure 10'X10'X10' high.
With good rain fall my Iron Clay Peas grew over the top of the 10' enclosure.
The deer ate the sides of the enclosure for about 4 to 6 inches was the max they could eat. The surrounding plot was eaten to the ground.
