RED TOP CANE (EARLY SUMAC)
Plant 50-100 lbs. per acre for best product production.
Shipping will apply.
Gives the highest levels of digestibility and animal performance per pound. Has a relative feed good quality making an excellent choice for a summer annual grass.
Seeding:
Drill 50 to 100 lbs. per acre from mid-May to July. If broadcasting sow 55-120 lbs per acre. Soil temperatures should be at least 60+ degrees and rising. Can be no-tilled into spring and late fall crops.
Fertility:
For normal usage we recommend that receive a minimum of 60-80 units of Nitrogen at or before planting time and that a top dressing of at least 20-34 units of Nitrogen be applied after each cutting. We recommend that no more than 250 units of N be applied throughout the growing season. Phosphorous, potassium, micronutrients. Always soil test your ground. Without soil testing apply 350-400 lbs per acre of 17-17-17 or a 1-1-1 type fertilizer.
Harvest:
Usually harvested first time at or around 45-60 days after seeding product.
Subsequent cuttings will be at approximately 40-45 day intervals depending upon temperature and water supply.
Greenchop:
An excellent choice for greenchop for feeding beef and dairy cows as well as sheep and goats. The rapid growth potential improves management options and optimizes production per unit area of cropland.
Direct grazing:
Works well as a grazed forage feeding crop. Rotational grazing will maximize the productivity of this crop. See outstanding weight gains (up to 3 lb/day for 500-600 weight calves) on calves grazing BMR's.
