Plant 25 - 35 lbs per acre.
German R millet is relatively early, fine-stemmed, and leafy with compact cylindrical heads. The spines of the heads tend to be reddish-purple in the immature stage but become straw-colored at maturity. The variety has good seedling vigor and is resistant to lodging.
Plant broadcast at a rate of 35 pounds per acre. Plant in drill at a rate of 20 pounds per acre. Cover seed 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep. Plant after all danger of frost is past.
Maturity: 95 -100 days depending on heat units.
PLANTING SEED SIZE: Approx. 150,000 - 180,000 seed/lb.
PLANTING: Planting at a depth of 1/4 to 1/2" in a firm, moist, well-worked seedbed. Best not to plant if chances of hard, packing rains are possible due to millet having difficulty pushing through a hard crust.
FERTILIZATION: Apply 50% of recommended rate from soil analysis before planting or first cutting. Split remaining applications equally between anticipated cuttings. With proper management, millets can reach protein levels up to 21%.
WEED AND INSECT CONTROL: Consult your local Ag-chemical supplier or agricultural extension agent for recommended pesticides and application rates.
HAYING: Cut a pre-boot stage to maximize protein content and digestibility. Cut 6 - 8" height to ensure faster re-growth.
GRAZING: Begin grazing at 24 - 36" height and keep stubble at 6 - 8" height to ensure faster recovery and re-growth.
PLANTING RATES: row width 20 - 40", 8 - 10 lb./ac. 6 - 18", 18 - 25 lb./ac. broadcast 35 lb./ac. BEST WAY BEST PRODUCTION
